Hearts, coins and chests

What costs a heart, how they refill, what coins buy, and what's inside a chest.

Hearts refill on a timer. Coins can refill them instantly - 50 coins buys 5 hearts.

Hearts#

  • You start a session with up to five hearts. A wrong answer costs one.
  • Hearts refill one at a time on a timer, so a short break brings you back.
  • Out of hearts? Wait, or spend 50 coins for 5 hearts from the hearts pill at the top of the screen.
  • Tutors can switch hearts off for a class (useful for exam practice), in which case you'll see no hearts at all.

Coins#

  • Earned by finishing lessons, keeping a streak, completing quests and opening chests.
  • Spent in the shop on characters, frames and trails for your profile, and on heart refills.
  • Coins are never sold for money and can't be transferred.

Chests#

Chests (bronze, silver, gold) drop at milestones: finishing a subtopic, a Review, or a streak week. Opening one is a server-checked event, so a chest that fails to open because your connection dropped is still yours - come back and it's waiting.

Common questions#

I lost hearts on a question that was marked wrong by mistake.

Flag the card and we'll refund the heart if the answer key was wrong.

Can parents turn hearts off?

Hearts are a per-class setting managed by the tutor. Parents can ask the tutor, or email us if the child learns without a tutor.
